So this morning I took myself out of my comfort zone
Saturday mornings for me usually consist of the feel of cold steel in my hand or the heft of the barbell across my shoulders & in my opinion these are the feelings of a great workout!?????
The benefits I get from weight training; increased fat burn, better posture, muscle definition & increased confidence, simply put it makes me feel like one tough chick!
So how did a self avowed weightlifting chick find herself on a yoga mat? (Apart from @flowithhelen always asking when I was going to one of her classes)????
When you want to lose weight or change your body composition you join a gym right?
So most people today are aware of the benefits of strength training with a balance of cardio (yes it has its place)?????????
Over my years I’ve gained confidence & strength, especially with the help from my coach @joeparish
I learned to stretch & roller as muscles became tight (or when I couldn’t move anymore) from the constant lifting, during my comp prep I did conditioning sessions, yes mainly for fat loss but also to aid recovery from my increased volume of load during sessions.?????
I live my life at 100 miles an hour so you’d probably never find me meditating or stretching, as I rarely switch off.?
So when @flowithhelen saw me yesterday looking very tired from my very early start about to train upper, she mentioned yoga to me for this morning & said “just come, even if you just lie on the mat, but yoga will give you such awesome benefits, it will help your flexibility & reduce your stress” So I agreed
How hard could yoga really be anyway?????
Wow! It was tough! I loved how it pushed me to align my body, lengthen & open my back, chest, hamstrings and everything in between. Yoga gave me time to clear my mind & get in a good healthy sweat.??
I intend to go to yoga more often to compliment my weight training, even though they couldn’t be two more different disciplines or serve different purposes but combined together I’m hoping they deliver powerful fitness results.??
I’m still not sure what Namaste ?? means (which we all said at the end) but I hope to find out and learn the benefits from yoga ????, as long as I can keep doing my barbell squats! ????? #yoga
