“Taking a few moments to reflect and think about my dad!?
*
After 20 years of no regular sporting activity and working in a high profile, stressful, consultant position both in the NHS and Home Office related activity my father retired from all paid employment at 66 years of age in 2017.
*
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and over the last 4 years has undergone operations on his leg and stomach to remove tumours. He also battled a testicular cancer scare which also remains under consideration. His mental health was compromised in 2017 after losing close friends to cancer and the loss of his mother (my nana) at 96 years of age.?
*
After reflecting on his life for 12 months my dad decided to make a change in his future focus and began writing a book and changed his outlook on life based on his feelings for me. ?? He described the pride he feels for what I have achieved since I began my journey in training and fitness activity.??
*
He has now been attending the gym 5 to 6 times per week since July 2018 focussing on cardio and resistance work; and I can see the difference in him. We live over 100 miles apart but he tells me I am his inspiration to improve his overall health and fitness. He tells me he is proud of me for what I have achieved but I think I am proud of him too! If my dad at 67 years can achieve this there is no excuse for anyone not making the effort to improve their lives and how they view themselves.
